Ruth Brown, also known as "Miss Rhythm" was a gutsy singer who dominated the rhythm-and-blues charts throughout the 1950s and had a career that extended to acting.
Some of her achievements include Tony Awards, Grammy Awards, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Jazz Hall of Fame.
She introduced a pop music style to R&B music and her success helped establish Atlantic Records.
